First Weekend i Kenya

Weekend 1
First week is already gone and so is the first weekend.

Even the first week has been very busy our first safari was already planned for the weekend . So after a quick meeting with Christine and Richard from the Ministry Friday morning, the entire 4ibmcsc team together with Alex was picked up by 2 wans and were headed of to Safari in the famous Masai Mara. Even it was a long drive (9 hours) we saw the diversity of the Kenyan landscape.

In Front of Great Rift Valley

We stopped at the Great Rift Valley going all the way from Israel to Mozambique. Amazing view of the Rift even with  the skys after heavy rain and as always a good shop where all the masai craft can be brought.
The road out to Masai Mara was not in the best conditions and the last kilometers were a challenge to sustain. But we all managed and arrived in good spirit to our Tent Camp Embogo close to the Masai Mara National Park Entry.  A nice meal was prepared for us by the camp's chefs and we sat with oil lamps and had dinner and a Tusker bear.

After a rain full night with wild animal sounds we got up early heading for the Park. After only short drive we saw zebras and some gazelles. But we were all looking for the Big 5's being the 1.African elephant, 2 Black rhinoceros, 3 Cape buffalo, 4 Lion and 5 Leopard. We saw all except for the Rhino which also is very rare even in this National Park.
We saw all of the animals in very short distance and they all seem not disturbed - except a huge male elephant so we quickly backed off.
The Leopard was hidden in the Acacia tree spotted just in the sunset. After a long day in the Bush we went back to the Camp for another good meal from the chefs. We all soon turned into our dark tents after a talk round the fireworks.
Another early morning and we went into the park again looking for more animals. We ended up the weekend seeing giraffes, cheetah, hippos, crocodiles, tapir, various apes different birds and more than I ever expected.
Driving our way back we went to a Masai Village and saw their cultural way of living having saved their tribe tradition both for living, dancing, clothing. The village was of 73 persons all with the same man in top.
A long ride back and we arrived at our new Home the Grand Hotel in Machakos getting ready for week number 2.
